Edalene Theatre with special arrangement with MTI presents 9 To 5 The Musical. Directed by Kerri Leier with music and lyrics by Dolly Parton, music direction by Melissa Vidito and book by Patricia Resnick, 9 to 5 based on the seminal 1980 hit movie. Set in the late 1970s this hilarious story of friendship and revenge in the Rolodex era is outrageous, thought-provoking, and even a little romantic.

Pushed to the breaking point, three female co-workers concoct a plan to get even with the sexist, egotistical, lying, hypocritical bigot they call their boss. While Hart remains "otherwise engaged," the women break through the glass ceiling and take control of the company that had always kept them down. This hilarious high energy show is brought to life with fantastic choreography from Alexa Ewert, and promises to be a jubilant toe-tapping ride that will touch the heart and tickle your funny bone.

Playing at the Al Whittle Theatre in Whittle from February 11-14th. Show times 7:30pm (11th-13th) and 2:30 and 7:30 on the 14th.

We're a week before a brand spanking new production and I'm a bit anxious and excited at the same time. It's always scary to put a piece of yourself out in the world but I'm really proud of this show. In the past, I've written about family's and relationships and fighting stereotypes-but this show deals with some much larger issues that are really relevant to my part of the world right now. Its got a bit more meat than shows in the past, but it's still got a lot of quirky characters and relatable relationships that has always been in my wheelhouse.

There have been a lot of changes for Edalene this year and some were not easy. But this show shines because of its growing pains and I am proud of where we've ended up. Melissa's music perfectly aligned with the feel of this show and the choreography that Alexa has brought to the table is really fantastic.

I hope you'll come out and support our new musical and wish it well as it develops a life of its own-as all shows tend to do.

Edalene Theatre presents a new original musical. When a big time business man wants to put up a resort on the sleepy island of Donovan, everyone thinks it will be awesome...at first. It soon becomes apparent that the hotel will threaten the school, the magical forest area called "Lauren's Vale" and the very way of life for the islanders. What will they do? How much would you be willing to give up in the name of progress? With a wild cast of unique islanders, earnest children, and lots of complicated interpersonal relationships, this shows offers phenomenal and catchy new music, lots of laughs, fantastic dancing and a whole lot of heart.
Written and Directed by Kerri Leier (JUMP! and A Brand New Year) with music, lyrics and musical direction by Melissa Vidito (A Brand New Year) and featuring brand new choreographer Alexa Ewert- this show is absolutely must for the whole family.
The show runs February 5th-8th at the Al Whittle Theatre with shows at 7:30pm from the 5th-7th and 2:30 and 7:30 on the 8th.

Camp re-visited and Starting Fresh

Last Sunday I got to revisit some great camp memories as the cast of Little Mermaid got together to watch their dvd. It was a fantastic event and it was really fun to see the kids enjoying their performances. Their excitement was really rewarding and I can't thank Kristy enough for her hard work on their video.

This week I've started working on my School's musical-an adaptation of the film 10 Things I Hate About You. There have been some hiccups but there is something exciting about seeing kids I work with everyday really shine and explore themselves through theatre. It made me so inspired I actually wrote some lyrics for a script I'm working on with a friend. Who knows if these will get used, but I haven't written in this way in a long time and it felt good. These words kept floating around my head and I had to get them out.

All of this has gotten me so excited for my show which starts rehearsal this weekend. Even though I've worked with almost all the cast before, it's many of their first times working with an original script of Edalene's-it's very exciting and also scary. I can hardly wait to see how things play out!

Camp

Camp is over and I have a bit of the blues! What an amazing experience it was this year. To top everything off, we got to work along side some amazing people-Roy,Alexa,Sarah,Alice, Cole and Kristy. I wanted to talk about Kristy in this post because of all the work she's doing for us and because of who she is.
Kristy Taylor is putting together a promotional video about camp to help us advertise and also filmed the production this year. She was in interviewing kids, us and capturing camp. I have to say, it was amazing having her around. She became part of the camp staff and her warm and nurturing nature allowed her to capture some behind the scenes moments that normally go unseen. I can not thank her enough...and the promo is simply fabulous! She's an amazing person and we are lucky to know her and also call her a friend.
Over the next few weeks I hope to be posting lots of camp photos, but for now....enjoy this amazing promo and if you have an event you want to capture-you have to get Kristy!

Based on Disney's award winning movie, The Little Mermaid, this show combines the classic songs that everyone knows and loves with new material that is guaranteed to please. This production is the culmination of three weeks of intensive study by local youths guided by Tracy Nasson Fritz as Choreographer, Melissa Vidito as Music Director and Kerri Leier as Director. This is a must see production that will delight and entertain the child in all of us.

Come under the sea and be part of our world.

Prep for camp

This week I've been doing a lot of prep for camp. After a horrific fail when trying to create Ariel's grotto, my father stepped in with a great solution.
I also purchased a bubble blowing machine.....essential to this show-at least in my opinion, and Patrick and I have been working on the powerpoint that will be used for the backdrop.

Not wanting to waste materials from my big fail, I decided to use the spray foam I bought to create Ursula's cauldron. It turned out really neat and I haven't painted it yet. Here are some pictures and I'll post more when I've finished the whole thing.

It is so much fun putting the pieces together, I can't wait to start with the kids!

Sam Donovan- Strong singer. Widowed farmer who holds the town together while parenting his two children. Adamantly against the resort project. 35 to 55. A strong man with a sensitive soul. Never fully recovered his wife’s passing but has a relationship with Suki. He thinks the town and his children would judge him moving on.

Suki Van Dauphnee-Mid to Late thirties, earlier forties. Runs the islands B&B. She is bubbly, outgoing and kind. Terrified that that Resort will close her down. She also respects Sam's need to keep their relationship out of the public eye.

Meeting

Today Tracy, Melissa and I had a great meeting at TAN. We discussed camp business, sorted out issues and bounced ideas off each other for future endeavors.
Every once and awhile I will have a moment when I wish I took another direction-did the production stream at York, went to Sheridan etc....then I meet with these two ladies and realize how much I could have missed if I'd gone down that road. To find two other people that compliment and drive you to create and push yourself is so rare and that is what these ladies do for me.
Although we often have *ahem* "creative differences", we always manage to come together and create something amazing. I am so blessed to have these two women in my life and to be in a community that supports what we do.
As we embark on our fourth original production, I find myself taking stock of things and realizing how rare it is that we are able to do new works and get the experience and feedback that this community gives us. As a writer, that is so valuable and as an artist it's beyond satisfying.
Thank you Tracy and Melissa, and thank you Wolfville for giving us a place to be us three.
