Creating Character! (ages 11-18) this 8 week, hour and a half long class will focus on developing character and truly exploring how to bring character to life. We will explore monologues, creating character from text and stepping into the shoes of a character that already is fully developed.                                                                   Classes: Mondays starting January 15th at the Al Whittle Theatre in Studio Z from 6:00-7:30pm


Story Theatre (ages 4-6) is a 45 minute class in which we learn the fundamentals of theatre through games, activities and exploring familiar stories. This class focuses on theatre through imaginative play and will foster a child's ability to express themselves while developing confidence, pose and imagination. At the end of the 8 weeks the children will perform an in class production based on a book that utilizes all the things they have learned thus far.

Exploring Theatre (7-9) is an hour long class in which we learn the fundamentals of theatre (like creating characters, telling stories and basic improv) through games and activities. This class focuses on theatre through the exploration of creating character and collectively developing a world that would have all our characters interact. At the end of the 8 weeks, the children will perform an in class production that utilizes all the things they have learned thus far.                                                                    Classes:Tuesdays starting January 16th at the Al Whittle in Studio Z in Wolfville at 4:15-5:15                                                                                                                 Price:$165.00

 Acting Out! (ages 10-12) Is an hour long class foused on exploring acting and delving into expressing our thoughts and ideas about issues that matter to us. Through collective creation we will examine our voices as performers and actors and create a piece of theatre that reflects the point of view of the actors in the class and what matters to them. This class will challenge the imaginative to delve deeper, while bolstering cooperative skills and confidence.                                                          Classes: Wednesdays starting January 17th at the Al Whittle Studio in Studio Z in Wolfville from 3:45-4:45 Price: $165.00

*Class minimum is 4 students.

Bio of the Instructors

Tessa Murphy-  Tessa has always been involved in theatre, whether it be within her community, school or Edalene Theatre. She did her first Edalene show back in the summer of 2011. It was a fantastic production of Seussical the Musical. Ever since that summer, she has been in every Summer Intensive show and several main stage shows as well. Now that she she is getting older, she is highly interested in working with kids and teens who are excited about theatre too. Tessa was head counselor this summer in Annapolis Royal where Edalene facilitated camp for their youth theatre program, assisted directed the Edalene Theatre Intensive production of The Addams Family and taught the theatre classes for the fall. She is currently starring in the mainstage show of We Will Rock You and is a triple threat with a natural and positive leadership style. We are thrilled to have Tessa instructing with us this winter!

Kerri Leier-Born in Port Williams, Nova Scotia-Kerri Leier doesn't remember a time when she wasn't in love with theatre.

She attended York University for its theatre program and, because of her love of children and youth, branched out to take her Bachelor of Education at the same time. While attending York, Kerri held summer jobs directing recreational camps, performing in dinner theatre and being both Counsellor and Theatre Director at several prestigious camps for fine arts. It was through these experiences that she solidified her commitment to young people and the arts. 

Upon graduation, she accepted a job at Neptune Theatre School Teacher, and later became the Administrative Assistant and a teacher at the theatre schoolwhile she assisted with the Neptune Youth Performance Company and also wrote her first full length musical . To produce the musical, Kerri formed Edalene Theatre and has taught theatre to preschoolers and university students.

Now in its 10th year, Edalene has  done multiple shows, four of which were original and two which also featured original music, and has now completed it’s 8th Summer Musical Theatre Intensive Camp for kids ages 10-18.
